Police did not reveal either the composition of the explosive or the exact method used to activate the bomb so as not to compromise the investigation, the paper said. Viktoria Kovacs, a spokeswoman for National Police ORFK, told Népszabadság that detectives had collected some 100 pieces of forensic evidence which could help identify the perpetrator.

The police are now working on reconstructing the crime using images and footage recorded by the bank’s security camera and public CCTV, the paper said. One theory the police are treating as highly plausible is the blast was intended to force open the bank’s ATM, the paper said.

Bank sources told Népszabadság that the ATM’s reinforced money cassette had been breached but no money was missing.
