VCP Buys Hungary's Daily Népszabadság
Vienna Capital Partners (VCP) announced on Thursday that it will buy Népszabadság as part of an extensive print media portfolio to be bought from Axel Springer and Ringier, in a deal that will facilitate the merger of the two publishing companies’ operations in Hungary.

VCP will also acquire business daily Világgazdaság and sports daily Nemzeti Sport, as well as eight regional daily newspapers, along with tabloid magazine hot!, home decorating monthly Lakáskultúra and women’s magazine Fanny.

The buyer intends to build on the traditions of Népszabadság in co-operation with minority owner the Szabad Sajtó Foundation, said senior partner Heinrich Pecina.

Ringier Magyarország CEO Attila Mihók will head VCP’s new media company.
Hungary’s Media Council rejected a merger request for the Hungarian operations of Germany’s Axel Springer and Switzerland’s Ringier in 2011.

The operations of the two publishers will be combined in the new Ringier Axel Springer Magyarország.
