Crime Insight: 'Extraordinarily Low' Number of Arrests Connected to UEFA Final in Budapest
- 2 Jun 2026 8:01 AM
In total, police took action in 13 infractions and made just six arrests over the course of the high-profile football weekend.
Authorities noted that this figure is extraordinarily low compared to data from other European cities hosting major sporting events of a similar magnitude.
Isolated Incidents: Király Utca Scuffles and Fan Festival Arrests
While the massive influx of traveling fans was overwhelmingly well-behaved, a few isolated altercations required law enforcement intervention in the lead-up to kick-off.
The most notable incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning around 12:20 a.m., when a mass brawl broke out between roughly 30 to 30 opposing Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain supporters on the downtown nightlife strip of Király utca.
The confrontation involved thrown punches, kicks, and the lighting of pyrotechnic flares, prompting the District VII Police Department to launch a formal investigation into gang violence and disorderly conduct using local CCTV footage.
Separately, police made a handful of targeted arrests at the official fan festival site. Among those detained was a British national who was caught climbing onto the roof of a parked car, alongside another British man and two Portuguese nationals who were charged with disorderly conduct following a localized altercation.
Medical and Transit Response
The physical toll of the festive weekend kept local emergency services active, though largely for minor issues.
The National Ambulance Service (OMSZ) reported that paramedics provided medical assistance to 91 individuals in and around the match venue, with 25 people ultimately transported to local hospitals for further care.
David Vitézy, Minister for Transportation and Investment, publicly praised the synchronized coordination of the city's infrastructure bodies.
He extended official thanks to MÁV-Volán, BKK, Budapest taxi drivers, Budapest Airport, and Hungarocontrol for their seamless handling of the logistics, noting that the transport network successfully showed the absolute best of Budapest and Hungary to thousands of international visitors.
