Hungary’s Opposition Needs 2/3rds Participation Rate To Win Power
The Socialist Party’s campaign chief, Zsolt Molnár, said that it would be impossible to unseat the Fidesz government without a two-thirds participation rate in the April 6 general election. Molnár was speaking at a conference organised by the Republikon Institute, a political think-tank, on the spring election.

András Schiffer, co-leader of LMP, said that one million voters were missing from the opposition side.

Molnár said the Socialists had managed to beat Fidesz before, at earlier parliamentary elections, as well as at by-elections over the past months.

This is again possible on April 6, provided that turnout is high, as Fidesz has more supporters among committed voters, he said.

“Fifty percent turnout is probably not enough to change the government,” he added.
