Number Of Prisoners Up In Hungary In 2013
The number of prisoners increased last year and was up at 18,439 by July, unprecedented since 2002, the national commander for law enforcement András Csóti said on Monday.

Despite the increase in the number of inmates, fewer attacks between prisoners were reported, Csóti said. The number of people in pretrial detention was up at 5,053, representing 28.3% of all those behind bars.

There were 12,391 convicted prisoners last year, 3.4% up from the previous year. Csóti said an important task continues to be involving more prisoners in employment and the target is to give a job to all inmates.
