Hungary Returned To Hungarians, Says Orbán
Hungary has been returned to the Hungarians, the prime minister said on Wednesday, evaluating the performance of his government in the past four years. Speaking on public television, Viktor Orbán listed among major achievements the adoption of the new constitution, “saving the country from an economic and financial collapse” and an overall reform of the health-care, education, economy, debt-management and tax systems.

Orbán said he saw a possibility of a further cut in household utility fees by means of establishing a system of nonprofit suppliers, adding that “a truly big step forward” now would be for electricity to be cheaper for industrial users.

The aim is for electricity to be the cheapest within the European Union for industrial users by 2018, he said. In the context of measures affecting banks, Orbán repeated his position that a country has no real control over its future without keeping at least 50% of its financial institutions in national hands.

The proportion is currently 30-40%, with the largest bank, OTP, taken into account, he said.
