Rodin, Comedy Theatre Budapest, 1 April
The new production of the Eifman Ballet pays tribute to one of the world’s greatest sculptors, Auguste Rodin, and his assistant, lover and muse, Camille Claudel-a relationship of passion and drama. The end of their fifteen-year-long romance was to be the beginning of Camille’s destruction; she suffered a mental breakdown and died forgotten in a mental institution thirty years later, in 1943.

The show explores the tragic nature of genii and the incomparable mystery of the work of art, and as in former productions of the choreographer, the chief means of expression is the body language of modern psychological ballet.

Considered for decades one of the world’s best, Russian choreographer Boris Eifman has put on stage more than forty productions. He founded his own company, the Leningrad New Ballet - now called the St Petersburg Eifman Ballet - in 1977.

His productions marry passion, dynamism and a connection to the spiritual with the tradition and effortless mastery of Russian ballet.
