In 2010 when Fidesz came to power Hungary faced total bankruptcy and the new government inherited from its predecessor a debt of 500 billion forints (EUR 1.6bn), Speaker of Parliament László Kövér said. The government not only saved the country from economic and financial bankruptcy but put it on a growth course again, the speaker told a press conference in Balkány, in north-east Hungary.
Kövér noted that Hungary’s economic output increased by 2.7% in the last quarter of 2013, and EU experts expect the country to produce a growth rate of over 2% in the future. He said that the number of job-holders had increased by 280,000 since 2010, and the women’s employment rate had reached a 22-year high.
