Xpat Opinion: Dob3 - Unpretentious Yet Chic Craft Beer Haven In Budapest
- 25 Mar 2014 8:00 AM
Dob3 offers an extensive list of over 30 whiskey brands, more than 35 types of beer (with a focus on bottled craft beers), international and local spirits like kosher pálinka, plus special beer cocktails.
There is quality as well as quantity, with a choice of rare beers (e.g. pumpkin) and more popular high-end brews from German classics to Japanese and Thai brands. The vast bottled beer and spirit selection can be seen through the doors of several chillers situated behind the bar, where the lighting adds brilliance without obscuring the view. If guests are still unsure about how to satisfy their thirst and taste buds, the informative menu and friendly staff are there to give advice.
The pub grub menu includes some traditional options like fish & chips, burgers, onion rings and shrimp snacks; plus it offers more gastro-pub style options such as the Guinness tiramisu.
Besides the heady mixture of real ale and fine food; Dob3 also has TV screens for sport lovers, and music ranging from pub rock to funky with live bands playing once a week (usually on Wednesdays), and hot DJs pumping up the beat every Saturday. In addition to accepting reservations (which recommended from Wednesdays onwards), Dob3 welcomes guests on a walk-in basis.
This relatively small bar, with seating available for around 50 people, opens daily from 4pm and offers early bird hours (happy hour) from 4pm until 7pm with a 20% discount on all food items and draft beers. It definitely has the vibe and authenticity ideal both for friendly conversations and pre-party drinks. It boasts a lively and chic atmosphere, but manages to stay resolutely unpretentious.
