Domestic Affairs To Dominate In EP Vote In Hungary
The majority of potential voters in the forthcoming European parliamentary elections will take domestic politics into consideration when casting their ballots, according to a survey Ipsos conducted in 12 EU member states. And this is all the more true of Hungarians, the pollster found.

In Hungary, just 5% of Ipsos’s sample said they would vote for parties on the basis of their relationship to the European Union, while 55% said they would choose the party most likely to boost their own country’s interests within the bloc.

Fully 15% said their vote would be in protest against the current holders of power. The British are most similar to Hungarians in these respects, while Germans and Swedes are more likely to focus on EU issues. Ipsos found that 35% would not bother with the EP elections.

The least bothered are the Czechs, 52% of whom were uninterested in the election. Only 26% of Hungarians said they weren’t interested.
