E-PM Urges Better Use Of European Opportunities
Hungary should make much better use of opportunities offered by the European Union, Zsuzsa Szelényi, MEP candidate of the opposition E-PM, said in a programme on public Kossuth Radio on Wednesday. Szelényi referred to the Erasmus programme as an example, saying that the scheme ensured study tours for many Hungarian students, while the similar Leonardo programme for vocational students had so far garnered little recognition.

The candidate said that major development projects in Hungary were financed largely out of community funds, but a lot of money was “wasted” or ended up in the channels of corruption over the past ten years.

It is not clear “who, for what, and how” distributes EU funds, she said, calling on the government to publish its database of exact amounts spent on specific purposes. So far, it has not been obvious what Hungary’s MEPs are doing in Brussels, but in future “the EU should be made a part of Hungary’s political arena,” Szelényi added.
