Hungary’s Jobbik Distances Itself From Ex-MP Gaudi-Nagy
The radical nationalist Jobbik has distanced itself from the party’s former deputy Tamás Gaudi- Nagy and condemned a recent demonstration, associated with him, where participants assaulted an ethnic Hungarian leader, Jobbik’s national board told MTI in a statement on Wednesday.

Jobbik was not among the organisers of the “unspeakable” demonstration where István Pásztor, head of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, was assaulted and will not take responsibility for any of its developments, the statement said.

The document noted, however, that Jobbik agrees with the original purpose of the demo, to protect Hungary’s land from “oligarchs or foreign buyers”, but added that the “political community of one million” behind Jobbik cannot be judged by the behaviour of “half a dozen frenzied protesters”.

Gaudi-Nagy is not a member of the party, the document added. News portal Origo reported on Tuesday that participants at a demonstration in central Budapest had spotted, who had arrived to attend the first session of parliament, held Pásztor up, called him a Bolshevik and spat in his face.

The assault was condemned by parties in Serbia and they demanded that the attackers should be punished. Pásztor is also president of the House of Representatives of Vojvodina.
