European Publishing Body Turns To Brussels Over Hungary’s Ad Tax
The European Publishers Council has asked the European Commission to examine the effect of Hungary’s new ad tax on the country’s advertising market. The EPC said the tax would “continue to erode” press freedoms in Hungary as well as hobbling the country’s media sector and eradicating independent news outlets.

Media companies, publishers, outdoor ad firms and the publishers of online ads will be subject to a tax on ad revenues, parliament decided on Wednesday.

European commercial broadcasters also condemned the new law as “disproportionate and counterproductive”. The Association of Commercial Television has decided to bring the issue to the attention of the EU institutions.
