Half Of Families With Children Report Problems Affording Food In Hungary

Almost half of Hungary’s families with children struggle to afford food, a Socialist politician said on Monday, citing a study of OECD member countries. Ildikó Borbély Bangó told a press conference that 47% of the families in the Gallup survey had found it difficult to buy food at some point.
“The government should not have spent money to build stadiums but to make sure no one is going hungry,” she said.
The tendency is likely to persist because the cabinet will divert almost 600 billion forints (EUR 2bn) away from the social security budget in the coming three years, she said, calling on the government to provide a readycooked meal once a day for children from poor families.
