Hungary’s Teachers’ Union Urges School Management Changes
It is necessary to review the operations of Klik, the public school manager in Hungary, and to implement changes based on negotiations with teachers’ representatives, the Democratic Union of Teachers (PDSZ) said in a statement, after meeting heads of NPK, the national board of Hungarian teachers.

Parties at the talks concluded that a survey should be conducted again to assess the workload on teachers, and that the current teacher qualification system should be reconsidered, the statement said.

Both PDSZ and NPK support that teachers’ salaries should be tied to the minimum wage, and that earlier pay hikes should be followed by similar measures.

At the talks, the union criticised that teachers were being “forced” to join the national board, and said that it made the legitimacy of the latter body uncertain, and called for a survey to find what proportion of teachers would join on their own accord.

Set up in 2012, the Klebersberg School Management Centre (Klik) is the sole employer of teachers working in public education and is also in charge of quality control and strategic planning.
