Jobbik: Hungary’s Gov Biometric Sports Club ID Proposal “Orwellian”
A government proposal to amend the sports law and require biometric ID for entrance to high-security sports events is “Orwellian”, the radical nationalist Jobbik party said.

The idea of restricting access to certain sports events to carriers of club cards containing biometric information would make it impossible to turn up to matches and would “kill off soccer”, according to lawmaker György Szilágyi.

The proposal raises serious constitutional, professional and moral concerns. And the current law already contains sufficient measures for preventing spectator violence.

Allowing clubs and security companies to handle sensitive personal data raises further worries, he added.
