Hungary’s Socialist Deputy Suspected Of Bribery Attempt
Hungary’s chief prosecutor has asked parliament to remove the immunity of Socialist lawmaker Dezső Hiszékeny. Péter Polt made his request in connection with a suspicion of attempted bribery and “other crimes”.

An investigation has found that Hiszékeny, who earlier served as deputy mayor of Budapest’s 13th district, had sought a bribe of five million forints from a businessman in return for the lease of a community-owned retail facility, the prosecutor said.

Hiszékeny did not receive the money, Géza Fazekas, a spokesman for the prosecutor, told MTI.

Four others are also suspects in the case involving Hiszékeny. The investigation which began in January was prompted by a report filed by a private individual. One of the suspects is an employee at a firm owned by the 13th district’s local council.

Hiszékeny was supported by the leftist opposition at the latest parliamentary election in April, and is now a member of the Socialist Party’s group.
