Roma Protest Against Eviction In Miskolc, Hungary
From today, Thursday 7 August local Roma will hold demonstrations for ten days against evictions from city-owned homes in Miskolc, Origo reported. The Roma authority wants to act against the “inhumane” evictions that began on Tuesday.

Aladár Horváth, head of the Roma Civil Rights Movement, alleged outside the city hall that a form of ethnic cleansing is under way aimed at pushing the poor out of town.

Horváth asked the Prime Minister to visit Miskolc and confirm his earlier statements that he will protect Roma.

János Kiss, head of the Fidesz group on city council, said the cases of those who have no valid contract with the asset manager are a matter for the court and court executors.

He said negotiations will be held with legal tenants on how they can leave the council-owned homes and under what conditions.

The town has offered up to Ft 2 million to those who agree to move out of the town and buy a property elsewhere.
