5. Asking for Directions (Útbaigazítás)

Learn the most important Hungarian phrases to ask for (and get) directions:
1. Elnézést! (Excuse me!)
2. Van itt a közelben bank? (Is there a bank near here?)
3. Hogyan jutok el a pályaudvarra? (How can I get to the railway station?)
4. Keresek egy címet. (I’m looking for an address.)
5. Sajnálom, nem tudom. (I’m sorry, I don’t know.)
6. Rossz irányba megy. (You’re going in the wrong direction.)
7. Sajnálom, nem vagyok idevalósi. (Sorry, I’m not from around here.)
8. Messze van? (Is it far?)
9. Gyalog túl messze van. (It’s too far to walk.)
10. Jobban tenné, ha busszal vagy taxival menne. (You’d better take a bus or a taxi.)
11. Jó felé megyünk Szentendrére? (Is this the right way for Szentendre?)
12. Meg tudná mutatni a térképen? (Can you show me on the map?)
13. Az első utcán menjen balra. (Take the first on the left.)
14. A második utcán menjen jobbra. (Take the second on the right.)
15. Forduljon jobbra a kereszteződésben. (Turn right at the crossroads.)
16. Menjen végig ezen az úton. (Go down this road.)
17. Menjen még ötszáz métert. (Keep going for another 500 metres.)
18. A bal oldalon van. (It’s on the left.)
19. A jobb oldalon van. (It’s on the right.)
20. Nem lehet eltéveszteni. (You can’t miss it.)

- Elnézést, van itt a közelben egy bank automata?
- Igen, van egy a Katona József téren. Menjen végig ezen az utcán, aztán forduljon balra, majd a második sarkon, forduljon jobbra. A bank automata a postánál van.
- Nagyon köszönöm.
- Szívesen.

Translation:
- Excuse me, is there a cash machine near here?
- Yes, there is one at Katona József square. Go straight down this street, then turn left and at the second corner, turn right. The cash machine is by the post office.
- Thank you very much.
- You’re welcome.
