Hungarian Govt Agency Files Complaint Against NGO Associated With Norway Grants
The Government Control Office (Kehi) has filed a criminal complaint against an unnamed organisation on suspicion of illegal financial activities, Kehi told MTI on Wednesday. Daily Magyar Nemzet’s Wednesday issue reported that Kehi was investigating the suspected organisation in connection with a probe into ways grants from the Norway Fund are distributed in Hungary, and suspected that it had provided loans to 17 civil groups amounting to 100 million forints (EUR 319,500) during the past 6 years.

At Kehi’s initiative, the National Bank has started a marketsupervision procedure against the organisation.

In June, several Hungarian civil groups complained over a request by Kehi for data and declined to comply with its procedure saying that grants received from other countries were outside the scope of authority of government agencies.

Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein decided on May 9 to suspend further disbursement of funds to Hungary over concerns about the Hungarian government introducing changes to the distribution of such funds
