Before the vote by the European Parliament approving Jean-Claude Juncker’s team, the commission’s president told a plenary session that Navracsics’s portfolio had been modified to a small extent: whereas the areas of culture, education, youth for which he was originally nominated remain, responsibility for the area of EU citizenship would go to the Greek commissioner.Navracsics in turn will also be responsible for sports affairs.

Juncker said that Navracsics had performed “excellently” at his hearing, demonstrating “a strong commitment to Europe,” making the Hungarian capable of carrying out the duties of a European commissioner.
