House Speaker Calls Singapore Model For Hungary
Singapore can be a model for Hungary in many ways, Speaker of Parliament László Kövér said in Singapore on Tuesday. Kövér called Singapore a multi-ethnic nation that has established peace and security and seeks to play a stabilising role in Southeast Asia.

Paying a one-day visit to Singapore, Kövér met his counterpart Halimah Yacob and President Tony Tan Ken Yam. Relying on traditionally good relations, Hungary seeks to develop comprehensive cooperation with Singapore with respect for mutual interests, he told Yacob.

In line with its policy of eastern opening, Hungary pays keen attention to the Southeast Asian region and the ASEAN nations, Singapore included, he said.

The Singaporean House speaker expressed hope that regular talks between the two countries’ leaders would encourage further trade and business relations.

President Tony Tan Ken Yam confirmed that Singapore could be gateway for Hungary to Southeast Asia and Hungary may perform the same function for Singaporean firms in Central Europe.

Kövér welcomed the recent EU-Singapore partnership and cooperation agreement as well as the forthcoming ratification of the two sides’ free trade agreement.
