Poverty In Hungarian Opposition Parties ’ Sights
- 22 Nov 2014 7:00 AM
Hungary is on the road to full poverty, a spokesman of the opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) said on Friday, commenting on fresh Eurostat data. Fully 26.8% of Hungarians, or three times the EU average, are classed as seriously deprived, DK lawmaker Tibor Zaveczki told a press conference.
The deprivation rate is unprecedented in Hungary, he said. The Socialists insist that social spending will fall by 25% next year.
Ildikó Borbély Bangó told a news conference that Hungary’s economic level should not warrant such a high level of poverty.
The green LMP party said that the government was ruining the social distribution system instead of strengthening it.
