“Stuart Little” Painting Sold In Hungary For Ft 70 Million
- 15 Dec 2014 8:00 AM
The 1927-28 painting of Eta Breuer, the painter’s second wife, was returned to Hungary after several decades, following adventurous circumstances.
Art historian Gergely Barki saw the painting thought lost, as it was used as a prop in the American film Stuart Little, released in 2009.
It later turned out that the Berény picture was also in an unidentified soap opera before Barki identified it and brought it home after five years of work.
The sale price is the highest ever for a painting by Berény.
