NAV Learns Of VAT Graft At Grains Companies
Hungary’s national tax and customs office (NAV) has learnt of a case of large-scale graft by a chain of Hungarian and Slovak grains traders in Velky Meder (Nagymegyer), in southern Slovakia.

One entrepreneur involved in the chain had given a detailed confession to a series of tax dodges which, for his part, totalled half a billion forints (EUR 1.6m) between 2009 and 2012, involving the transfer of several thousand tonnes of grains between several Slovakian and Hungarian companies.

The chain fraudulently claimed VAT refunds costing the Hungarian and Slovak authorities billions of forints, a NAV statement added. An investigation is under way.
