Hungary’s Jobbik Wants Govt To Discuss Costs Of Refugees With EU
The radical nationalist Jobbik party has called on the government to start talks with the European Union on sharing the costs of handling refugees, deputy group leader Dániel Z Kárpát said. Kárpát said it was intolerable that Hungarian taxpayers are made to pay nearly all the costs related to handling refugees who enter the EU through Hungary’s border with a view to transiting the country.

The overall costs including indirect effects total 3 billion forints a year, he added. Kárpát said the refugee situation in Hungary cannot be separated from the “immigration crisis and resulting social tensions”.

The number of refugees arriving in Hungary grew by more than twenty-fold between 2012 and 2014, he said.

Basic help should be granted for people in fear of their lives, but there are many economic refugees, too, he added.

As long as increased security risks are present, Jobbik demands keeping refugee shelters sealed and gradually moving them outside residential areas.

Refugees should be screened because many of them have a criminal background, he insisted.
