Hungarian Government Closes Sunday Shop Hours Loopholes
- 19 Feb 2015 5:00 AM
Hungary’s government has decided it will not add any more exceptions to restrictions on Sunday business hours at retailers, the government spokesman said, adding that it sees no reason at present to expand the exceptions already contained in the law by decree.
For this reason, it is drafting a decree that will prohibit exceptions to the law based on tourist demand, shopping habits, employee numbers or the particularities of some residential areas, Zoltán Kovács said.
Under legislation approved late last year, most big retailers will be required to close on Sundays from mid-March.
Family-run shops that are below 200 square metres are exempted from the rule.
