The project lining out the new Museum Quarter includes the complete reconstruction of the Museum, which is expected to take around two years.

The institution’s artworks will be rehoused in the building from the summer of 2017 and the first exhibitions in the newly-refurbished building on Heroes’ Square will open in the spring of 2018, until which the collection’s pieces will be exhibited in the National Gallery.

The reconstruction will include the renewal of the so-called Roman hall, which has been in ruins since 1945, work on the roof and the establishment of new exhibition areas, a storage facility and a restaurant.

Several partial reconstruction efforts have already been carried out on the Museum of Fine Arts, the latest being the renewal of the building’s façade in 2008; however, the renovation of the so-called Roman Wing and the development in building services engineering the reconstruction entails has been delayed for decades.
