Support For Fidesz In Hungary Continues To Wane, Jobbik Rises
Support for ruling party Fidesz in Ipsos’s latest poll conducted in February continued to wane, while the camp of radical nationalist Jobbik expanded.

Fidesz support among all respondents dropped to 21% at the start of February from 23% in the previous month, while backing for Jobbik rose to 16% from 14%, Ipsos said, adding that since last October Fidesz’s backing had dropped from 35% to 21%, meaning that 1.1 million voters had deserted the party.

The pollster noted that support for Jobbik, with 1.3 million voters, had never been as strong as it is now. “In the party rankings, Jobbik is getting ever closer to Fidesz, as there is now just a difference of 400,000 supporters between them,” Ipsos said.

Backing for the Socialist Party remained stable at 11%, translating into 900,000 votes. The leftist Democratic Coalition (DK) stood at 4% in February while LMP kept its support of 3%.

Együtt and Dialogue for Hungary had 1% each. The growth in the number of respondents who said they would not participate in an election halted, standing at 40%, or 3.2 million voters.
