DK Proposes Hunting Ban On Sundays
The leftist opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) will submit a bill aimed to introduce a ban on hunting on Sundays. DK spokesman Zsolt Gréczy told a press conference on Sunday that the motion, if passed into law by parliament, would ensure that the last day of the week “is a day of rest not only for people but for wild animals, too”.

Referring to recent legislation “adopted under pressure from KDNP (Christian Democrats)”, under which large shops are now closed on Sundays, Gréczy said that the coruling party’s reasoning for the ban was based on the idealised family image of spending Sundays together.

He went on to say that “the ideal of perfect family togetherness” is now most threatened by hunting, “the gentlemanly pastime” of Christian Democrat leader Zsolt Semjén.

Animals, too, would like to “spend the weekend with their families, with their small and nestling”, the spokesman said, adding that the proposal was motivated by the “absurdity” of the Sunday shopping ban.
