Hungarian Govt In “Deep Shock” About Terrorist Attack In Kenya
The government rejects all forms of violence and terrorism, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said referring to Thursday’s terrorist attack in Kenya, which claimed 147 lives. Earlier, the foreign ministry learnt with “deep shock” about the attack at Garissa University, and expressed Hungary’s sympathy with families of the victims. The university was attacked by the al-Shabaab Islamic militia early on Thursday.

The terrorists shot over 70 people and took hostages. Such events indicate that the threat of terror is increasing throughout the world, Szijjártó said. The terrorist organisation that committed Thursday’s attack is trying to compete with Islamic State, an endeavour which also confirms that the fight against IS must be strengthened. Hungary is undertaking an obligation to participate in the international coalition against IS, he said.

Defence leaders are soon to return from Iraq where they inspected the potential area of the involvement of Hungarian soldiers, the minister said.

Szijjártó said he would brief the parliamentary parties about their findings so that parliament could decide in April about Hungary’s military involvement. Szijjártó expressed thanks to the opposition Democratic Coalition for supporting the government plan to contribute Hungarian soldiers to the fight against IS.
