Andrássy Statue Returns To Budapest Kossuth Tér
- 6 May 2015 9:02 AM
A large-scale bronze equestrian statue of Gyula Andrássy, Austro-Hungarian foreign minister in the 1870s, was erected on Kossuth tér on Tuesday. The 6.5-metre high statue located on the south side of the Parliament building is the last work of art required to recreate the look of the square as it was in 1944.
The sculpture is a replica of the original by György Zala erected on what was then called Országház tér on December 2, 1906.
That work was removed, broken up and melted down in 1945.
