'I Bike Budapest': Big Cycle Parade & Family Ride on 18 April
Budapest will host its largest annual cycling parade on Saturday 18 April, bringing together thousands of cyclists to demonstrate the kind of city they want: safer, more livable, and truly bike‑friendly.

The annual event known locally as, “I Bike Budapest 2026 – Bringás Felvonulás,” turns the city streets into a shared space for bicycles, families, and city residents to demand a different kind of urban life.

This year the parade starts in Óbuda, with the route passing through special sections where everyday cycling is rare or difficult. By riding there, participants show how the city could look and feel if it were genuinely designed for cyclists.

The route will temporarily grant access to areas usually dominated by cars, offering a glimpse of a more bike‑oriented Budapest.

For families, there is the I Bike Mini route: a shorter, safer path designed for children and their parents. It allows even the youngest riders to take part, turning the event into a playful, yet powerful statement about the need for a city where every child can cycle safely and confidently.

The organizers emphasize that I Bike Budapest is a collective stand for a more livable city. They want Budapest to be a place where cycling is not treated as an act of courage, but as a normal, safe, and everyday mode of transport.

Their goal is to create an environment in which people choose a bicycle not despite the city, but because the city is built to support them.

Volunteers are also invited to join the organizing team. Anyone interested in helping run the event can sign up at the official organizer registration page.

Once again, the I Bike Mini will accompany the main parade, underscoring the organizers’ vision of a Budapest where every child can ride a bicycle safely and proudly. The belief is that only a city where children can cycle freely is a city that truly works for everyone.

The main parade will be opened by Willem van Ee, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Hungary.

The Netherlands, one of the most bike‑friendly countries in the world, has supported Hungarian cycling development and the I Bike Budapest parade for more than 15 years.

This symbolic gesture highlights the long‑term partnership between Dutch cycling culture and Hungary’s own efforts to build a safer, more sustainable city.

A special feature of the event is the Star Tour (Csillagtúra): riders are encouraged to travel together in groups toward the starting point. Participants can join local groups or even organize their own ride.

Anyone planning such a group is advised to recruit three or four fellow organizers, create a Facebook event with the planned route, send it to the main organizers, and then make sure to take part in the parade itself.

By combining a mass bicycle parade, a family‑friendly mini route, and community‑driven group rides, I Bike Budapest 2026 aims to send a clear message: a safer, more human‑scale Budapest is possible, and cycling is a key part of that future.

Budapest Bike Maffia: Syrup Drinks & Sandwiches

The Budapest Bike Maffia, a cyclist group that supports people in need, is preparing once again this year with sandwiches and soft drinks. These items can be enjoyed in exchange for a donation, so participants can contribute to a good cause while refueling during the event.
