Bernd Kirschner - After Forever, Budapest Art Factory, 25 June
Bernd Kirschner’s canvases depict scenes on the verge of figuration and abstraction. The representational characters stem from the real world which he then inserts as mobile entities in the colored picture plane. He is foremost interested in human figures; however, they are not employed to express identity, rather to portray human existence itself. The actors are reduced to their fundamental attributes, which emerge with a definite presence as permitted by their demeanor.

These conducts project moods which become the heart of his compositions. The correlation of the atmosphere and color scheme and the coloration of the overall image are central for the art of Kirschner.

The dreamlike, hallucinatory ambiance of his oeuvre encourages the viewer to engage with his pieces for extended periods of time. This contemplation soon leads the viewer to the formation of pictorial worlds which materialize through the interplay of profound gaze and the working mechanism of the subconscious.

Bernd Kirschner (b. 1980, Memmingen) lives and works in Berlin, Germany. Kirschner studied painting at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart. His art is represented by Galerie Michael Schultz (Berlin, Beijing, Seoul).

Currently running exhibitions include a group show in Venice, Natura Nutrix – Homo Vorax, and a solo exhibition at the New York based Gallery Molly Krom, titled Relocation.
