Council Reports On Rising Hate Speech In Hungary
Hate speech is becoming more prevalent in Hungary, and is not restricted to the political fringe, but is found across the political spectrum, according to a new report issued by the Council of Europe. Hungary is among the worst European states in dealing with racism and intolerance, the report found. The report expresses serious concerns about hate speech directed against immigrants, Roma, Jews, and homosexuals.

It says “a particularly hostile mood awaits immigrants and refugees in Hungary,” adding that the far right incites against them, and the political elite should override this rhetoric.

Euronews quotes observers as saying that anti-immigrant rhetoric was previously expressed by the far right, but has now been taken over by Fidesz.
