Farm Ministry Calls For Investigation Into Illatos Road Pollution In Budapest
The farm ministry has called for a thorough investigation into the environmental pollution at a depot on Illatos Road in Budapest’s 9th district, to uncover the source of the contamination first reported in April this year. It said improper chemical use or fodder illegally obtained by the former state chemical works privatised in 1993 could be responsible for the pollution.

The 1,005 barrels posing the biggest risk had been removed by May 31.

The green opposition LMP said it would take legal action to obtain a list of similar environmental risks, insisting that Illatos Road was “just the tip of the iceberg.”

The radical nationalist Jobbik called for a parliamentary investigation committee to look into the government’s environmental spending. In April, more than 1 billion forints was spent on the waste disposal at the depot.
