Bernar Venet noted that over the past 20 years he had made his steel compositions in partnership with Hungary’s Szalai metal works, adding that several of his works were exhibited in the Budapest Arts Hall in 2012. The 1 million euro composition was transported to Budapest from Vienna’s Belvedere Palace’s gardens, Viola Lukács, the curator, noted.
Bernar Venet was born on 20 April 1941 and brought up in Chateau-Arnoux-Saint-Auban, France. With the support of a local artist, he became interested in painting and drawing at a young age. Venet’s work has become known internationally, with sculptures exhibited in Belgium, America, Japan, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and more recently New Zealand. In 2005, Venet received the title of Chevalier de La Legion d’Honneur, France’s highest honour.
