Australian Man Sentenced For Assaulting A Policeman In Budapest
An Australian national has been sentenced in Budapest for assaulting a police officer, the Municipal Prosecutor’s Office said. The young man received a suspended sentence of 1 year 9 months in prison in a 72- hour expedited procedure. Police were alerted in Nagymező utca in Budapest’s central 6th district when the Australian man and his friend were seen “disturbing the peace”, a police report said.

When police arrived with a patrol car the two men ran into a nearby hostel where they were soon caught by the police officers.

The Australian man failed to cooperate and injured one of the officers by slamming a door on his leg with force several times.

The man was then arrested, handcuffed and taken to the local police station.

The Pest Central District Court found him guilty of violence against a police officer and of causing minor bodily harm. The sentence was suspended for two years.
