Hungaricum Village @ Sziget Budapest 2015
- 10 Aug 2015 2:45 AM
This year's theme is "cifra", the unique pattern of Hungarian folk art; bringing its rich decorative shapes and playfulness to Sziget. Szitizens interested can learn painting, embroidery and even cifra dance steps in the afternoons. Besides the traditional dance companies, guests will also arrive from Transylvania, who will showcase their own dances and dresses.
The Hungarian Open Air Musuem in Szentendre will present what actually "cifra" means in Hungarian culture, how do "cifra" dresses look like as the matyó, the kalocsai or the cifraszűr. Body painting will be "cifra", but you can also get "cifra" motifs on your nails. Those who wish can decorate the "cifra" tent of the Skanzen of Szentendre with the learnt motifs. Of course Szitizens can also try the old games of the SKANZEN and the giant furniture as well. The hair braiding girls of the Hungaricum Village will do "cifra" braids as well as paint "cifra" samplers on Szitizens.
Traditionally the evenings will close with all-night dance get-togethers, where anyone can try some Hungarian dances and get a taste of the "Táncház" method, which has been inscribed on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO.
