Szijjártó: Hungary Complies With Schengen, EU Rules
Hungary is one of the few countries that comply with the Schengen rules and protect the European Union’s external borders, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said. The foreign ministry noted that Italian news agency ANSA quoted Italian premier Matteo Renzi as responding to a question about Russia at the Clinton Global Initiative conference that “today the real risk to Europe is not Russia but Hungary, which is building a new wall.”

The ministry also quoted the words of French Justice Minister Christiane Taubira, who said the actions of Hungary were “intolerable” and warned that Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union allows the bloc to take measures against member states that do not observe the values of the EU.

Szijjártó responded by noting that Hungary has received a total of 275,389 illegal migrants so far this year, who were taken care of in accordance with international law and most of them were registered.

He said it has become “clear” that “the less time the leaders of a country spend criticising others, the more efficient they are in keeping to European rules.”

It was “improper” for the Italian prime minister and the French justice minister to be criticising Hungary for observing EU laws, he said.
