Szijjártó: Swedish PM’s Remarks On Hungary ‘Unacceptable’
Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven’s recent remarks about Hungary in connection with the migrant crisis are “hypocritical and unacceptable,” Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said. “I consider it extremely hypocritical and unacceptable when somebody confuses the transfer of European Union resources with the issue of immigration, one of the greatest challenges facing the European Union,” he told MTI by phone.

The ministry said Szijjártó commented on Löfven’s remarks made at a press conference in Stockholm where he said he was disappointed because of the many EU member states refusing to take responsibility for the migrants, including Hungary.

Löfven said Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was the premier of a member state that was receiving one of the largest amounts of EU financing and if one wants a share of the common good, they should also demonstrate that they are part of the community.

Szijjártó said Hungary was making every effort to act in keeping with EU regulations and reduce the pressure of migration on Hungary, Austria, Germany and the whole of the EU.

“Hungary is acting in line with Schengen rules and the Dublin Regulation and Hungary is building a fence along its southern border so that it can protect the EU’s external border and reduce the pressure of migration on Europe.”

“So if there is a country that is making every effort to reduce the pressure of migration and is therefore demonstrating solidarity with other European countries, it is Hungary,” he said.
