Romani Design’s Spring Summer 2016 IKON Collection Unveiled
Romani’s collection dubbed IKON was inspired by five iconic women: Frida Kahlo, Marlene Dietrich, Audrey Hepburn, Sofia Loren and Marilyn Monroe. Real WOMEN who created their own unique styles inspiring others as well. The collection unites five different characters, five different worlds by connecting ages and styles.

Tradition and innovation together create the fashion studio’s rich world interwoven with Roma motifs that create a universe filled with stories and songs just like the unique world of each and every one of us.

The silhouettes of the five icons are recreated in Romani’s free and joyous world in a way that results in a collection that is youthful and fresh, with a unisex but at the same time boho chic line and a pinch of minimalism, so that everyone can create his or her unique style.

Erika Varga, the founder of the first Roma fashion house, said: „I was inspired by the legendary outfits, and, while keeping our unique character, I aspired to create a completely new collection that bears a new approach with clean-cut and somewhat minimalist silhouettes. A collection that hails clothing and identity that is free of boundaries, and which may show you the way how to be your true self.”

At the fashion show the collection was led up by five famous Hungarian actresses: Dorka Gryllus (Frida Kahlo), who is also the face of Romani, Franciska Farkas (Audrey Hepburn), Eszter Ónodi (Marilyn Monroe), Judit Rezes (Marlene Dietrich), and Anna Trokán (Sophia Loren).

The collection was designed by Erika Varga, the bags were designed by Mária Varga, and the styling was created by Márk Lakatos.

Romani Design

Romani Design is one of the member NGOs in the ERSTE Foundation Roma Partnership, a program dedicated to improving the life of Roma people in the communities across Central and South-Eastern Europe.

Romani Design was founded in 2010 by Erika Varga with the aim of introducing the rich motifs of the Roma dressing culture into contemporary design. During the five years, the characteristic garments and the unique handcrafted accessories have been embraced by both consumers and the designer world, and today the fashion studio evokes the notion of acceptance, openness and diversity.

Romani is more than just a fashion studio. It raises awareness, creates and transfers values, which also manifest in its mission in education: they hold creative workshops and courses where they teach disadvantaged women and young people. For more information visit www.romani.hu
