Cold Halts Budapest Esztergom Trains
The cold weather caused technical problems and long delays on the recently renovated Budapest-Esztergom train line on Monday. Trains full of passengers on their way to work and school were left stranded on the approach to Budapest.

A railway official said a shunting at Óbuda station malfunctioned in the cold. He said the faulty switches caused only temporary snags in train traffic, which restarted at 7.58 a.m. Three trains were overdue because of the forced stoppage.

The biggest delay was 40-45 minutes, according to state railway company MÁV.

The Ft 44.5 billion granted by the EU for the renovation was not sufficient to obtain all the necessities for high standard train transport, as there were no funds for heating the switches, Népszabadság writes.
