Xpat Insight: Hungarians Prefer Putin To Merkel, Support Obama More
Hungarians are divided in their opinion about two leading politicians in Europe, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, a recent survey by Nézőpont Institute shows. However the Russian president was seen positively by 46% and critically by only 28%, whereas his US counterpart was seen favourably by 59% and negatively by only 18%.

Whereas 39% of respondents expressed a positive view about Merkel, 42% saw her in a more negative light.

The EC president was viewed positively by 22%, but in a negative light by 23%, the survey showed, revealing however that 33% of those asked were unfamiliar with the person of Juncker.

The survey used a sample of 1,000 people aged above 18, and was conducted over the phone between January 4 and 7.
