Gov’t Buys Washington Mansion
The Hungarian state has bought a building six blocks away from the White House, for $16.5 million, the Washington Business Journal reports.

Confirming the reports, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said presenting a positive image of Hungary in Washington is a top priority.

The seller is the American Coatings Association, which has owned the property on Rhode Island Avenue for more than 75 years.

The Washington Business Journal added that the Hungarian embassy will move into the building, known as the Brodhead-Bell-Morton Mansion, but the Foreign Ministry declined to tell Népszabadság about its plans.

Under the contract, the current owner will remain in the building until December 1, 2016, and will leave some of the furniture behind when moving out.
