Curious Minds With Steve Weiss, Brody Studios, 16 March
Dr. Steve Weiss is a Senior Visiting Research Fellow in the Department of War Studies at Kings College London, after being awarded his Masters and PhD in the same subject. He is the author of “Allies in Conflict” as well as a contributor to works on the French Resistance. His own memoirs, “Second Chance” were published in 2011 and his wartime story contributed greatly to Charles Glass’ recent book, “The Deserters - The Last Untold Story of the Second World War".

As a teenager from Brooklyn, Weiss enlisted in the US Army and fought with the 36th Texas Infantry, participating in the invasion of Southern Italy in 1943 and Operation Dragoon, the invasion of Southern France, in August 1944. He served with the French Resistance and American Special Forces and is a decorated combat veteran and a distinguished recipient of the Croix de Guerre and the French Legion of Honor.

Upon his return to civilian life, Dr. Weiss pursued a career in network television at CBS in Los Angeles. As a result of his own experiences with “battle fatigue” he became interested in psychotherapy and pursued a doctorate in that subject, eventually opening his own practice while maintaining his television career by day.

Dr. Weiss has three grown children and eight grandchildren, all of whom live on America’s west coast. He currently resides in London - when not conducting historical battlefield tours or giving talks on topics related to WW2 and Frontline Psychiatry. Dr. Weiss has concluded that war is not only hell, it’s toxic.

This will be a unique opportunity to engage with a lively and entertaining man who wants to share his complicated and unconventional story, which serves as a counterpoint to the “Greatest Generation” version of an American soldier’s combat experience.
