Report: Budapest-Sofia Route Will Not Receive State Subsidy
Direct flights between Budapest and Sofia will no longer receive state support as earlier promised by the National Development Ministry, Hungarian daily Népszabadság reported.

The ministry announced its plans in early February to call a tender to operate a direct flight between Budapest and Sofia as well as between Budapest and Podgorica, Pristina, Skopje and Tirana, all of which it deemed “vital for the economic development of the region they serve”, according to reports.

Following the ministry’s announcement of two weeks ago, Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air said it would launch a direct flight between Budapest and Sofia as of November 1, flying three times a week.

The ministry told Népszabadság today that rather than call the planned tender, it would instead add a fifth flight - between Budapest and Sarajevo - to its roster of flights supported by the state.
