Fidesz MP Outlines Bill Supporting Budapest’s 2024 Olympic Bid
Fidesz lawmaker Gergely Gulyás outlined a bill supporting Budapest’s bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics in parliament on Tuesday, declaring that the capital is capable of hosting a “safe and successful” event. The draft legislation submitted on Monday aims to establish the basic rules for both the bidding phase and the actual hosting of the Games.

The bill covers rules pertaining to the Olympic feasibility authority, the entry, stay and employment of third country nationals and a transport plan for the Olympics, Gulyás said.

The bill does not aim to regulate every single aspect of the event, Gulyás said, adding that the National Olympic Committee forms its expectations based on past experience, and additional aspects may be considered after the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Budapest faces competition from Rome, Paris and Los Angeles to host the event.
