Szijjártó Owes US Criticism Of Hungary To Soros’ ‘Dissatisfaction’ With Govt
- 19 May 2016 9:00 AM
At a campaign event for his wife at the College of New Jersey last week, former US President Bill Clinton referred to Hungary and Poland as “two countries that would not be free but for the United States and the long Cold War”. Clinton added that now Hungarians decided democracy was “too much trouble” and want a Putin-style leadership.
On Tuesday, US Ambassador to Hungary Colleen Bell said Clinton’s comments were the former president’s personal opinion.
Szijjártó said “the facts contradict” the criticism, as “more and more US companies are investing in Hungary”. In 2015, the US was both the top non- European Union investor in Hungary and the country’s number one export destination outside the EU, he insisted.
