The year-long festival will be organised within the framework of a government programme launched to mark the 60th anniversary of the anti-communist uprising in Poland’s Poznan in June 1956 and Hungary’s anti-Soviet revolution four months later, Hungarian Ambassador Iván Gyurcsík said.

The festival will formally begin with a performance by renowned contemporary ballet group Győr Ballet in Teatr Polski in Warsaw next Thursday. Hungary will be the guest of honour at the international Book Fair that will begin in the Polish capital also on Thursday.

The National Philharmonic conducted by Zoltán Kocsis will give several concerts in Warsaw, Szczecin, Krakow, Poznan, Katowice in the autumn.

The National Museum in Krakow will put on two separate exhibitions from October this year until the end of 2017 and several Hungarian programmes will be organised in Wroclaw, a European Capital of Culture this year.
